An art direction / illustration project from Ben Marriott’s Design Breakthrough course for a hypothetical ad campaign for a sports streaming service. We were to create style frames for a 15 second spot that would highlight the extraordinary athletic feats that viewers may get to see if they tune in.

Process
The process began with looking to pinterest to create a moodboard for a general direction for the look and feel of the project. I wanted to create something that felt vast like you were in space. I wanted the sense of scale and distance of space to come through in my style frames as I thought this would serve to amplify the magnitude of the athletic feats pictured.
I then had a mind mapping session in which I wrote down all the ideas that I had tying these concepts. In the end the approach I went for was to tie the idea of a solar eclipse with an epic backboard breaking slam dunk.
The illustrations were thumbnailed and refined in photoshop before being vectorized in illustrator in grayscale. They were then sent back to photoshop to be coloured.
